"Our adventure on the Owyhee River was a trip to remember. All of the advanced reading we did did not even come close to prepare us for the grandeur and beauty of this high desert river. Every one commented on the quality of the food that your crew prepared. The surprise poppy seed birthday cake you provided for my wife was a very nice touch that made her trip one to remember."
Thomas J. Ravizza, Mt. Shasta, CA
Oregon's most dramatic whitewater river cuts an isolated course through the sagebrush tablelands in southeast Oregon. This remote high desert wilderness is the setting for an unforgettable four or five day trip. A National Wild and Scenic River since 1984, the Owyhee offers scenery reminiscent of Bryce and Zion National Parks in Utah. Referred to as Oregon's "Grand Canyon," the Owyhee is a geological wonderland of rock pinnacles, towering spires, breathtaking multi-colored rock formations, deep chasms, and sheer-walled canyons. Located on the Pacific Coast Flyway, it's a bird watcher's paradise! Antelope, bighorn sheep, and wild horses reside in the rim country overlooking the river. The wildlife is abundant, the scenery is incredible, and the whitewater is exhilarating. Exploring abandoned homesteads, studying ancient Indian pictographs, hiking, or soaking in hot springs are a few diversion you will find near campsites with sandy beaches. Dutch oven cooking is featured at dinner time, adding extra flavor to your Owyhee River experience. Undamned and flowing free, the Owyhee is runnable only in spring when high mountain snows melt. It is a secret hideaway that few visit, but always return... this is a trip not to be missed.
